“เคฎเฅˆ เค†เคœ เฅซ เค˜เค‚เคŸเคพ เคชเคขเคพเคˆ เค•เคฟเคฏเคพ” [I studied for 5 hours today]
“เคชเคฐเฅ€เค•เฅเคทเคพ เค•เฅ€ เคคเฅˆเคฏเคพเคฐเฅ€ เค•เฅ‡ เคฆเฅŒเคฐเคพเคจ, เคคเฅเคฎเค•เฅ‹ เค•เคฎ เคธเฅ‡ เค•เคฎ เฅฎ เค˜เค‚เคŸเคพ เคชเคขเคจเคพ เคšเคพเคนเคฟเคฏเฅ‡. ” [During exam preparations, you need to study at least 8 hours a day]
We all have heard statements like these in our student life. However, we feel that there is an inherent flaw in studying by time. Each one of us will study a topic with different speeds [of learning]. Like some of your friends from school may take a few hours to memorize something that you might memorize in a few minutes!
Let us study a simple example. If you want to build a chair, you call a carpenter. There are two ways to pay the carpenter. Either pay him Rs. 100 per hour or Rs. 200 per chair. He takes 2 hours on an average to make the chair. Now if you pay him hourly, why should he can extract more money form you. But if you pay him to make a chair ie job wise, a smart carpenter will in fact work faster. He knows that this is what he has to do. So, if he does the in an hour, heโ€™ll save time which is a more valuabe resource.
Similarly, donโ€™t schedule time daily schedule quantity – like 1 chapter of science or 25 sums in Maths. You will get a rough idea of how much you can study within a certain time. Allocate slightly more than that. This will make sure that your attention span stays and you stretch your mind.
Simply donโ€™t get up till you finish the quantity planned. If youโ€™ll spend more time, that will eat into your reserve hour. Isnโ€™t that a great incentive to work hard with focus ? It sure is!

TIP: Donโ€™t rush though the portion that you are supposed to complete โ€“ you need to grasp it thoroughly. At the same time, donโ€™t set unrealistic targets for yourself. Theyโ€™ll in hurry and tension.

PRACTICE
You need to get an idea of the quantity v/s time taken equation which will give you a rough idea of your speed in a particular subject. Make a sheet like this:

Date Quantity/TopicTime taken
Quantity Sheet

Soon youโ€™ll have a rough estimate of the time you take. Then you can try to reduce time taken for a task. Just keep the sheet filled so that you know you are at a good speed.
